Aim - Concept Modelling of Seat.
Objective - To observe and experience the design of a Seat and then perform required processes/tricks to model the same.
Some of the most important parameters of any car where comfort is taken care of, is Sitting, more specifically Seats. Seats plays a major role in comfort in fact its overall significance is to give comfort. So it is really important that Seats are well designed and as everyone sitting on it will be having different proportions and for this very reason, it should be customizable/movable. We will be focusing on how to model a Seat, and our challenge here is, We have only a perspective view and a Side view. Modelling Steps are explained below.
Approach -
Steps -
We have made reference boxes, we have made this based on our personal preference since the dimensions are not given.
Next, we started from the side and made the Head Rest first which is fairly easy, we have used simple SKIN command since it is the easiest, we can use and SURFACE FEATURE it can be done with either one. About the shape, we can simply trace the image and then at the front we can make it as wide as we want.
Then we have made the backrest, again simple, tracing the lines and imagining the line which started from the headrest and goes till bottom, then use RAIL consider the images -
Now we will have to make some surfaces in such a way that we can get the shape right of side portion, we will extend some surfaces and intersect it then trim it to achieve the shape, consider the following images.
Here we have to think about how much wide we want and much outside we can take our side support. After deciding this we can simply make surfaces with whatever we think is easy and personally preferred.
Now, we will be making the transition of connecting the side to the backrest, consider the following approach -
To achieve this we will follow just a few steps -
1 - Making the curve shown in the image.
2 - Project the curve on the backrest.
3 - After projecting we will get a COS (Curve on Surface), we will use this along with the surface edge for Surface Generation.
4 - For a Surface generation, we have used FREE FORM BLEND.
NOTE - Here we can also use SQUARE but using blend is advisable since it saves time and if we use skin command we will have to make extra curves. And this point and also in the industry just making the design and achieving the shape is not enough we have to be efficient as well.
So, after reaching till this point, it is advisable to save the file because things might turn out bad after what we will be doing next.
So, after saving the file what we will be doing is, selecting the object selector command and then select the whole object (everything in the workspace) and delete the QUERYEDIT HISTORY. What this will do is it will delete the history (meaning that we cannot go back to the previous stage and core reason to save the part prior to deleting the history is because of this) next we can save the file again but this time we have to save it separately. Now what will do is, we will align the surface so that we can achieve the continuity so that it looks good.
5 - Then we will align it with the corresponding surfaces.
NOTE - Deleting the history is also advisable and so as saving the files separately,' because sometimes software can crash and we can lose the file itself, next about deleting history, we have to do it because sometimes it can interfere in making new features or surfaces.
Next we have to do the same thing with bottom surfaces, which is exactly the same process.
A Finished model is shown in the images below -
Conclusion - Ability to model realistic and interactive parts of an Automobile is increased. Model planning and executing skill is increased.
